The Angaraka Stotram is preserved in the Skanda Purana, with the sage Virupangiras named as its rishi, Agni as the presiding deity and Gayatri as its metre. It belongs to the family of planetary (Navagraha) hymns recited for graha-shanti — the pacification of the nine planets. Mars (Mangala) is described in the Puranas as Bhumiputra, the son of the Earth goddess, a fierce, red, four-armed warrior who rules energy, courage and land; this stotra gathers his most sacred names so that the reciter may win his grace and be freed from debt, disease and want.

අස්ය ශ්රී අඞ්ගාරකස්තෝත්රස්ය . විරූපාඞ්ගිරස ඍෂිඃ . අග්නිර්දේවතා . ගායත්රී ඡන්දඃ . භෞමප්රීත්යර්ථං ජපේ විනියෝගඃ .

Meaning:इस अङ्गारक स्तोत्र के ऋषि विरूपाङ्गिरस हैं, देवता अग्नि हैं, छन्द गायत्री है; भौम (मङ्गल) की प्रसन्नता के लिए इसका जप किया जाता है।

අඞ්ගාරකඃ ශක්තිධරෝ ලෝහිතාඞ්ගෝ ධරාසුතඃ . කුමාරෝ මඞ්ගලෝ භෞමෝ මහාකායෝ ධනප්රදඃ .. 1..

Meaning:ऋण हरने वाले, दृष्टि देने वाले, रोग के कर्ता एवं रोग के नाशक; विद्युत् के समान प्रभा वाले, व्रण (घाव) करने वाले, कामनापूरक, धन हरने वाले — वे कुज हैं।

Meaning:सामगान के प्रिय, रक्तवस्त्रधारी, विशाल लाल नेत्रों वाले; लोहित, रक्तवर्ण, समस्त कर्मों के ज्ञापक।

රක්තමාල්යධරෝ හේමකුණ්ඩලී ග්රහනායකඃ . නාමාන්යේතානි භෞමස්ය යඃ පඨේත්සතතං නරඃ .. 4..

raktamālyadharo hemakuṇḍalī grahanāyakaḥ | nāmānyetāni bhaumasya yaḥ paṭhet satataṃ naraḥ || 4||

Meaning:लाल पुष्पों की माला धारण करने वाले, स्वर्ण कुण्डलधारी, ग्रहों के नायक — ये भौम के नाम हैं; जो मनुष्य इन्हें निरन्तर पढ़ता है,

ඍණං තස්ය ච දෞර්භාග්යං දාරිද්ර්යං ච විනශ්යති . ධනං ප්රාප්නෝති විපුලං ස්ත්රියං චෛව මනෝරමාම් .. 5..

ṛṇaṃ tasya ca daurbhāgyaṃ dāridryaṃ ca vinaśyati | dhanaṃ prāpnoti vipulaṃ striyaṃ caiva manoramām || 5||

Meaning:उसका ऋण, दौर्भाग्य और दरिद्रता नष्ट हो जाते हैं; वह विपुल धन और मनोरम (प्रिय) स्त्री प्राप्त करता है।

වංශෝද්ද්යෝතකරං පුත්රං ලභතේ නාත්ර සංශයඃ . යෝ(අ)ර්චයේදහ්නි භෞමස්ය මඞ්ගලං බහුපුෂ්පකෛඃ .. 6..

vaṃśoddyotakaraṃ putraṃ labhate nātra saṃśayaḥ | yo'rcayedahni bhaumasya maṅgalaṃ bahupuṣpakaiḥ || 6||

Meaning:वह वंश को उद्द्योतित करने वाला पुत्र प्राप्त करता है — इसमें संशय नहीं; और जो दिन में भौम (मङ्गल) की बहुत से पुष्पों से अर्चना करता है,

The stotra may be recited 11 or 21 times, and is especially fruitful on Tuesdays or through the period of an adverse Mars dasha or transit for relief from debt and Mangal Dosha.
