The Ram Chalisa is a forty-verse Hindi hymn in the beloved chalisa tradition, praising Rama as Maryada Purushottam — the perfect embodiment of dharma. It dwells above all on the boundless power of Rama's name, which the Vedas proclaim, which Shiva eternally repeats, and which carries the devotee across every difficulty to the abode of Vaikuntha.

অর্থ:Whoever meditates upon you night and day — there is no devotee equal to them.

Dhyana dharem shivaji mana mamhi Brahma, indra para nahim pahim
অর্থ:Shiva himself holds your meditation in his heart; even Brahma and Indra cannot reach your limit.
দূত তুম্হার বীর হনুমানা। জাসু প্রভাব তিহুং পুর জানা॥
Duta tumhara vira hanumana Jasu prabhava tihum pura jana
অর্থ:Your messenger is the hero Hanuman, whose might is known throughout the three worlds.
জয, জয, জয রঘুনাথ কৃপালা। সদা করো সংতন প্রতিপালা॥

অর্থ:Victory, victory, victory, O compassionate Raghunatha; ever protect the saints.

অর্থ:Your mighty arms are fierce, O merciful one; slaying Ravana, you protected the gods.
তুম অনাথ কে নাথ গোসাঈং। দীনন কে হো সদা সহাঈ॥

অর্থ:You are the Lord of the orphaned, O Master; ever the helper of the lowly.
ব্রহ্মাদিক তব পার ন পাবৈং। সদা ঈশ তুম্হরো যশ গাবৈং॥
Brahmadika tava para na pavaim Sada isha tumharo yasha gavaim
অর্থ:Brahma and the gods cannot find your limit; ever, O Lord, they sing your glory.
চারিউ ভেদ ভরত হৈং সাখী। তুম ভক্তন কী লজ্জা রাখী॥
Chariu bheda bharata haim sakhi Tuma bhaktana ki lajja rakhi
অর্থ:The four Vedas bear witness; you preserve the honour of your devotees.
গুণ গাবত শারদ মন মাহীং। সুরপতি তাকো পার ন পাহিং॥
Guna gavata sharada mana mahim Surapati tako para na pahim
অর্থ:Sharada (Saraswati) sings your virtues in her heart, yet even Indra cannot reach your end.
নাম তুম্হার লেত জো কোঈ। তা সম ধন্য ঔর নহীং হোঈ॥
Nama tumhara leta jo koi Ta sama dhanya aura nahim hoi
অর্থ:Whoever takes your name — none is more blessed than they.
রাম নাম হৈ অপরম্পারা। চারিহু বেদন জাহি পুকারা॥
Rama nama hai aparampara Charihu vedana jahi pukara
অর্থ:The name of Rama is boundless; all four Vedas proclaim it.
গণপতি নাম তুম্হারো লীন্হো। তিনকো প্রথম পূজ্য তুম কীন্হো॥
Ganapati nama tumharo linho Tinako prathama pujya tuma kinho
অর্থ:You took on the name of Ganapati (Ganesha) and made him the first to be worshipped.
শেষ রটত নিত নাম তুম্হারা। মহি কো ভার শীশ পর ধারা॥
Shesha ratata nita nama tumhara Mahi ko bhara shisha para dhara
অর্থ:Shesha (the serpent) ever repeats your name, bearing the burden of the earth upon his head.
ফূল সমান রহত সো ভারা। পাবত কোঊ ন তুম্হরো পারা॥

অর্থ:That burden rests as light as a flower for him; yet no one finds your limit.
ভরত নাম তুম্হরো উর ধারো। তাসোং কবহূং ন রণ মেং হারো॥
Bharata nama tumharo ura dharo Tasom kabahum na rana mem haro
অর্থ:Hold the name of Bharata in your heart, and you will never be defeated in battle.
নাম শত্রুহন হৃদয প্রকাশা। সুমিরত হোত শত্রু কর নাশা॥
Nama shatruhana hridaya prakasha Sumirata hota shatru kara nasha
অর্থ:The name of Shatrughna shines in the heart; remembering it, the enemy is destroyed.
লখন তুম্হারে আজ্ঞাকারী। সদা করত সন্তন রখবারী॥
Lakhana tumhare ajnakari Sada karata santana rakhavari
অর্থ:Lakshmana is obedient to you, ever guarding the saints.
তাতে রণ জীতে নহিং কোঈ। যুদ্ধ জুরে যমহূং কিন হোঈ॥
Tate rana jite nahim koi Yuddha jure yamahum kina hoi
অর্থ:Therefore none can win against them in battle, even were Yama himself to join the fight.
মহালক্ষ্মী ধর অবতারা। সব বিধি করত পাপ কো ছারা॥
Mahalakshmi dhara avatara Saba vidhi karata papa ko chhara
অর্থ:Mahalakshmi took incarnation (as Sita) and in every way reduced sin to ashes.
সীতা রাম পুনীতা গাযো। ভুবনেশ্বরী প্রভাব দিখাযো॥
Sita rama punita gayo Bhuvaneshvari prabhava dikhayo
অর্থ:Sita and Rama were sung as purifiers; she showed the power of Bhuvaneshwari.
ঘট সোং প্রকট ভঈ সো আঈ। জাকো দেখত চন্দ্র লজাঈ॥
Ghata som prakata bhai so ai Jako dekhata chandra lajai
অর্থ:She appeared from the earth (a pot), at whose sight even the moon felt shy.
জো তুম্হরে নিত পাংব পলোটত। নবো নিদ্ধি চরণন মেং লোটত॥
Jo tumhare nita pamva palotata Navo niddhi charanana mem lotata
অর্থ:Those who ever press your feet — the nine treasures roll at their feet.
সিদ্ধি অঠারহ মংগলকারী। সো তুম পর জাবৈ বলিহারী॥
Siddhi atharaha mamgalakari So tuma para javai balihari
অর্থ:The eighteen auspicious siddhis are ever sacrificed in devotion to you.
ঔরহু জো অনেক প্রভুতাঈ। সো সীতাপতি তুমহিং বনাঈ॥
Aurahu jo aneka prabhutai So sitapati tumahim banai
অর্থ:And whatever other glories exist, O Lord of Sita, you have created them all.
ইচ্ছা তে কোটিন সংসারা। রচত ন লাগত পল কী বারা॥
Ichchha te kotina samsara Rachata na lagata pala ki bara
অর্থ:By your mere wish, millions of universes are made in less than a moment.
জো তুম্হরে চরণন চিত লাবৈ। তাকী মুক্তি অবসি হো জাবৈ॥
Jo tumhare charanana chita lavai Taki mukti avasi ho javai
অর্থ:Whoever fixes the mind upon your feet surely attains liberation.
সুনহু রাম তুম তাত হমারে। তুমহিং ভরত কুল পূজ্য প্রচারে॥
Sunahu rama tuma tata hamare Tumahim bharata kula pujya prachare
অর্থ:Hear me, O Rama, you are our father; you are proclaimed worthy of worship in Bharata's line.
তুমহিং দেব কুল দেব হমারে। তুম গুরু দেব প্রাণ কে প্যারে॥
Tumahim deva kula deva hamare Tuma guru deva prana ke pyare
অর্থ:You are the deity of our family of gods; you are our Guru, beloved as our very life.
জো কুছ হো সো তুমহিং রাজা। জয জয জয প্রভু রাখো লাজা॥

অর্থ:Gauri's Lord (Shiva) took a true oath: you bestow every perfection through devotion.
জ্ঞান হৃদয দো জ্ঞান স্বরুপা। নমো নমো জয জগপতি ভূপা॥
Jnana hridaya do jnana svarupa Namo namo jaya jagapati bhupa
অর্থ:Grant knowledge to my heart, O embodiment of knowledge; salutations, salutations, victory, O Lord of the world.
ধন্য ধন্য তুম ধন্য প্রতাপা। নাম তুম্হার হরত সংতাপা॥

আবাগমন মিটৈ তিহি কেরা। সত্য বচন মানে শিব মেরা॥
Avagamana mitai tihi kera Satya vachana mane shiva mera
অর্থ:Their cycle of birth and death is ended — Shiva himself accepts this as true.
ঔর আস মন মেং জো হোঈ। মনবাংছিত ফল পাবে সোঈ॥
Aura asa mana mem jo hoi Manavamchhita phala pave soi
অর্থ:And whatever other hope is in the mind, that very wish is fulfilled.
তীনহুং কাল ধ্যান জো ল্যাবৈ। তুলসী দল অরু ফূল চঢ़াবৈ॥
Tinahum kala dhyana jo lyavai Tulasi dala aru phula chadha़avai
অর্থ:Whoever brings your meditation at all three times of day, and offers tulsi leaves and flowers —
সাগ পত্র সো ভোগ লগাবৈ। সো নর সকল সিদ্ধতা পাবৈ॥
Saga patra so bhoga lagavai So nara sakala siddhata pavai
অর্থ:— and offers a simple food of greens — that person attains complete perfection.
অন্ত সময রঘুবর পুর জাঈ। জহাং জন্ম হরি ভক্ত কহাঈ॥
Anta samaya raghubara pura jai Jaham janma hari bhakta kahai
অর্থ:At the final hour they go to Rama's abode, where they are born as a devotee of Hari.
শ্রী হরিদাস কহৈ অরু গাবৈ। সো বৈকুণ্ঠ ধাম কো পাবৈ॥
Shri haridasa kahai aru gavai So baikuntha dhama ko pavai
অর্থ:So says and sings Sri Haridas; that one attains the abode of Vaikuntha.
সাত দিবস জো নেম কর,পাঠ করে চিত লায। হরিদাস হরি কৃপা সে,অবসি ভক্তি কো পায॥
Sata divasa jo nema kara,patha kare chita laya Haridasa hari kripa se,avasi bhakti ko paya
অর্থ:Whoever, with a focused mind, keeps the discipline for seven days and recites it — by Hari's grace Haridas (the devotee) surely attains devotion.
রাম চালীসা জো পঢ़ে,রাম চরণ চিত লায। জো ইচ্ছা মন মেং করৈ,সকল সিদ্ধ হো জায॥
Rama chalisa jo padha़e,rama charana chita laya Jo ichchha mana mem karai,sakala siddha ho jaya
অর্থ:Whoever reads the Ram Chalisa, fixing the mind on Rama's feet — whatever wish is in the mind, all is fulfilled.

Daily recitation of the Ram Chalisa invokes the grace of Lord Rama (Maryada Purushottam) for protection, victory and righteousness.

राम चालीसा পাঠের নিয়ম
After bathing, sit before an image of Sri Rama (with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman). Light a lamp, offer tulsi leaves and flowers, and recite the Chalisa with the mind fixed on Rama's lotus feet. The text recommends a focused seven-day observance for devotion. Conclude with 'Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram' and aarti.
