The verses of the Vishnu Suktam are among the oldest praises of Vishnu in the Vedas, found in the first Mandala of the Rigveda. They depict Vishnu as Urugaya, the far-strider, who with three steps measured the cosmos and set up the world's order — an image that later flowered into the Vamana-Trivikrama avatara. Compiled with the Vishnu Gayatri, the hymn became one of the five Suktams chanted in daily Vaishnava and temple worship to invoke Vishnu's protective, all-pervading presence.
✦ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ କୁହାଯାଇଥିବା ପରି
Tradition holds that the line 'Tad Vishnoh paramam padam' — 'that supreme abode of Vishnu which the wise ever behold' — is among the most exalted mantras of the Veda; meditating upon it is said to draw the devotee toward Vaikuntha itself. In great temples this Suktam has been chanted over the deity for centuries, and devotees attribute the unbroken auspiciousness of such shrines to the constant invocation of Vishnu's cosmic strides.

ଯେକୌଣସି ଧାଡ଼ି କିମ୍ବା ▶ ବଟନ୍ ଛୁଇଁ ଶୁଣନ୍ତୁ
ଓଁ ଵିଷ୍ଣୋର୍ନୁ କଂ ଵୀର୍ଯାଣି ପ୍ର ଵୋଚଂ ଯଃ ପାର୍ଥିଵାନି ଵିମମେ ରଜାଂସି। ଯୋ ଅସ୍କଭାଯଦୁତ୍ତରଂ ସଧସ୍ଥଂ ଵିଚକ୍ରମାଣସ୍ତ୍ରେଧୋରୁଗାଯଃ॥
Om Vishnornu kam viryani pra vocham yah parthivani vimame rajamsi; Yo askabhayaduttaram sadhastham vichakramanastredhorugayah.
ଅର୍ଥ:ॐ। अब मैं विष्णु के वीर्यपूर्ण कर्मों का वर्णन करता हूँ, जिन्होंने पार्थिव लोकों को नाप दिया, जिन्होंने तीन विशाल पगों से चलते हुए उत्तर लोक को थाम रखा।
ଅତୋ ଦେଵା ଅଵନ୍ତୁ ନୋ ଯତୋ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁର୍ଵିଚକ୍ରମେ। ପୃଥିଵ୍ଯାଃ ସପ୍ତ ଧାମଭିଃ॥
Ato deva avantu no yato Vishnurvichakrame; Prithivyah sapta dhamabhih.
ଅର୍ଥ:जहाँ से विष्णु ने विक्रम किया, वहाँ से देवता हमारी रक्षा करें — पृथ्वी के सात धामों के साथ।
ଇଦଂ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁର୍ଵିଚକ୍ରମେ ତ୍ରେଧା ନି ଦଧେ ପଦମ୍। ସମୂଳ୍ହମସ୍ଯ ପାଂସୁରେ॥
Idam Vishnurvichakrame tredha ni dadhe padam; Samulhamasya pamsure.
ଅର୍ଥ:विष्णु ने इस समस्त को नाप लिया; तीन स्थानों में उन्होंने अपना पद रखा; सब कुछ उनके चरण-रज में समाहित है।
ତ୍ରୀଣି ପଦା ଵିଚକ୍ରମେ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁର୍ଗୋପା ଅଦାଭ୍ଯଃ। ଅତୋ ଧର୍ମାଣି ଧାରଯନ୍॥
Trini pada vichakrame Vishnurgopa adabhyah; Ato dharmani dharayan.
ଅର୍ଥ:अदभ्य (अजेय) गोपा विष्णु ने तीन पगों से विक्रम किया, और वहाँ से धर्मों (नियमों) को धारण किया।
ଵିଷ୍ଣୋଃ କର୍ମାଣି ପଶ୍ଯତ ଯତୋ ଵ୍ରତାନି ପସ୍ପଶେ। ଇନ୍ଦ୍ରସ୍ଯ ଯୁଜ୍ଯଃ ସଖା॥
Vishnoh karmani pashyata yato vratani paspashe; Indrasya yujyah sakha.
ଅର୍ଥ:विष्णु के कर्मों को देखो, जिनके द्वारा उन्होंने व्रतों का दर्शन किया — वे इन्द्र के योग्य सखा हैं।
ତଦ୍ଵିଷ୍ଣୋଃ ପରମଂ ପଦଂ ସଦା ପଶ୍ଯନ୍ତି ସୂରଯଃ। ଦିଵୀଵ ଚକ୍ଷୁରାତତମ୍॥
Tadvishnoh paramam padam sada pashyanti surayah; Diviva chakshurAtatam.
ଅର୍ଥ:विष्णु का वह परम पद, जिसे ज्ञानी सूरि (ऋषि) सदा देखते हैं, आकाश में फैले हुए नेत्र के समान है।
ତଦ୍ଵିପ୍ରାସୋ ଵିପନ୍ଯଵୋ ଜାଗୃଵାଂସଃ ସମିନ୍ଧତେ। ଵିଷ୍ଣୋର୍ଯତ୍ପରମଂ ପଦମ୍॥
Tadvipraso vipanyavo jagrivamsah samindhate; Vishnoryatparamam padam.
ଅର୍ଥ:वही विष्णु का परम पद, जिसे जागरूक एवं स्तुतिशील विप्र (मनीषी) अपने भीतर प्रदीप्त करते हैं।
ଓଁ ନାରାଯଣାଯ ଵିଦ୍ମହେ ଵାସୁଦେଵାଯ ଧୀମହି। ତନ୍ନୋ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁଃ ପ୍ରଚୋଦଯାତ୍॥
Om Narayanaya vidmahe Vasudevaya dhimahi; Tanno Vishnuh prachodayat.
ଅର୍ଥ:ॐ। हम नारायण को जानें, वासुदेव का ध्यान करें; वह विष्णु हमें प्रेरित करें। ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः।
ଓଁ ଶାନ୍ତିଃ ଶାନ୍ତିଃ ଶାନ୍ତିଃ॥

विष्णु सूक्तम् ପାଠ ବିଧି
Traditionally chanted while performing abhishekam (ritual bathing) of a Vishnu/Salagrama murti, or as part of daily worship. Sit facing east or north, recite each verse clearly with awareness of Vishnu's three cosmic strides, and conclude with the Vishnu Gayatri and the threefold shanti. It may be chanted once as part of puja or repeated; pacing should be calm and reverent.
