Radha, daughter of King Vrishabhanu of Barsana, is the beloved of Krishna and the heart of his pastimes (leela) in Vrindavan. Worshipped as the embodiment of pure love and as Krishna's own bliss-power, she is adored together with him as Radha-Krishna. This Chalisa sings her beauty, her place in the rasa-dance, and the truth that Krishna himself is won not by penance but by the loving remembrance of Radha's name.
✦ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରରେ କୁହାଯାଇଥିବା ପରି
The Chalisa declares that though one perform a million sacrifices and penances, Krishna does not accept the devotee as his own until they sing the name of Radha; and that the son of Yashoda himself follows behind whoever remembers her name, so devotees of Braj greet each other only with 'Radhe Radhe.'

ଅର୍ଥ:Shri Radha, daughter of Vrishabhanu, the very life-breath of the devotees; O wanderer in the groves of Vrindavan, I bow to you again and again.
ଜୈସୌ ତୈସୌ ରାଵରୌ, କୃଷ୍ଣ ପ୍ରିଯା ସୁଖଧାମ। ଚରଣ ଶରଣ ନିଜ ଦୀଜିଯେ, ସୁନ୍ଦର ସୁଖଦ ଲଲାମ॥
Jaisau taisau ravarau, krishna priya sukhadhama Charana sharana nija dijiye, sundara sukhada lalama
ଅର୍ଥ:Such as I am, I am wholly yours, O beloved of Krishna, abode of bliss; grant me the refuge of your feet, O beautiful, joy-giving, lovely one.
ଜଯ ଵୃଷଭାନୁ କୁଂଵରି ଶ୍ରୀ ଶ୍ଯାମା। କୀରତି ନଂଦିନୀ ଶୋଭା ଧାମା॥
Jaya vrishabhanu kumvari shri shyama Kirati namdini shobha dhama
ଅର୍ଥ:Victory to you, daughter of Vrishabhanu, Shri Shyama; daughter of Kirti, abode of all beauty.
ନିତ୍ଯ ଵିହାରିନି ଶ୍ଯାମ ଅଧାରା। ଅମିତ ମୋଦ ମଂଗଲ ଦାତାରା॥
Nitya viharini shyama adhara Amita moda mamgala datara
ଅର୍ଥ:Eternal sporting one, the support of Shyam (Krishna); giver of boundless joy and auspiciousness.
ରାସ ଵିଲାସିନି ରସ ଵିସ୍ତାରିନି। ସହଚରି ସୁଭଗ ଯୂଥ ମନ ଭାଵନି॥
Rasa vilasini rasa vistarini Sahachari subhaga yutha mana bhavani
ଅର୍ଥ:Delighting in the rasa-dance, spreader of its nectar (rasa); beloved of the fair company of your sakhis.
ନିତ୍ଯ କିଶୋରୀ ରାଧା ଗୋରୀ। ଶ୍ଯାମ ପ୍ରାଣଧନ ଅତି ଜିଯ ଭୋରୀ॥
Nitya kishori radha gori Shyama pranadhana ati jiya bhori
ଅର୍ଥ:Ever-youthful, fair Radha; the very treasure of Shyam's life, utterly innocent of heart.
କରୁଣା ସାଗର ହିଯ ଉମଂଗିନୀ। ଲଲିତାଦିକ ସଖିଯନ କୀ ସଂଗିନୀ॥
Karuna sagara hiya umamgini Lalitadika sakhiyana ki samgini
ଅର୍ଥ:Ocean of compassion, your heart brimming with joy; companion of Lalita and the other sakhis.
ଦିନ କର କନ୍ଯା କୂଲ ଵିହାରିନି। କୃଷ୍ଣ ପ୍ରାଣ ପ୍ରିଯ ହିଯ ହୁଲସାଵନି॥
Dina kara kanya kula viharini Krishna prana priya hiya hulasavani
ଅର୍ଥ:You who sport on the banks of the Yamuna, the Sun's daughter; dear as life to Krishna, you gladden his heart.
ନିତ୍ଯ ଶ୍ଯାମ ତୁମରୌ ଗୁଣ ଗାଵୈଂ। ରାଧା ରାଧା କହି ହରଷାଵୈଂ॥
Nitya shyama tumarau guna gavaim Radha radha kahi harashavaim
ଅର୍ଥ:Ever does Shyam sing your praises; saying 'Radha, Radha,' he rejoices.
ମୁରଲୀ ମେଂ ନିତ ନାମ ଉଚାରେଂ। ତୁଵ କାରଣ ଲୀଲା ଵପୁ ଧାରେଂ॥

ଅର୍ଥ:On his flute he ever sounds your name; for your sake he takes on his playful (leela) form.
ପ୍ରେମ ସ୍ଵରୂପିଣି ଅତି ସୁକୁମାରୀ। ଶ୍ଯାମ ପ୍ରିଯା ଵୃଷଭାନୁ ଦୁଲାରୀ॥
Prema svarupini ati sukumari Shyama priya vrishabhanu dulari
ଅର୍ଥ:Embodiment of love, most delicate and tender; beloved of Shyam, darling daughter of Vrishabhanu.
ନଵଲ କିଶୋରୀ ଅତି ଛଵି ଧାମା। ଦ୍ଯୁତି ଲଘୁ ଲଗୈ କୋଟି ରତି କାମା॥
Navala kishori ati chhavi dhama Dyuti laghu lagai koti rati kama
ଅର୍ଥ:Ever-fresh young maiden, abode of supreme beauty; before your radiance the splendour of a million Ratis and Kamadevas seems small.
ଗୌରାଂଗୀ ଶଶି ନିଂଦକ ବଦନା। ସୁଭଗ ଚପଲ ଅନିଯାରେ ନଯନା॥
Gauramgi shashi nimdaka badana Subhaga chapala aniyare nayana
ଅର୍ଥ:Fair of limb, your face putting the moon to shame; with lovely, restless, sharp-cornered eyes.
ଜାଵକ ଯୁତ ଯୁଗ ପଂକଜ ଚରନା। ନୂପୁର ଧୁନି ପ୍ରୀତମ ମନ ହରନା॥
Javaka yuta yuga pamkaja charana Nupura dhuni pritama mana harana
ଅର୍ଥ:Your two lotus-feet reddened with lac; the sound of your anklets steals the heart of your beloved.
ସଂତତ ସହଚରି ସେଵା କରହୀଂ। ମହା ମୋଦ ମଂଗଲ ମନ ଭରହୀଂ॥
Samtata sahachari seva karahim Maha moda mamgala mana bharahim
ଅର୍ଥ:Your companions serve you constantly, their hearts filled with great joy and auspiciousness.
ରସିକନ ଜୀଵନ ପ୍ରାଣ ଅଧାରା। ରାଧା ନାମ ସକଲ ସୁଖ ସାରା॥
Rasikana jivana prana adhara Radha nama sakala sukha sara
ଅର୍ଥ:Life and breath-support of the rasikas (the lovers of devotion); the name of Radha is the essence of all happiness.
ଅଗମ ଅଗୋଚର ନିତ୍ଯ ସ୍ଵରୂପା। ଧ୍ଯାନ ଧରତ ନିଶିଦିନ ବ୍ରଜ ଭୂପା॥
Agama agochara nitya svarupa Dhyana dharata nishidina braja bhupa
ଅର୍ଥ:Of eternal form, unreachable and beyond the senses; upon whom the king of Braj (Krishna) meditates day and night.
ଉପଜେଉ ଜାସୁ ଅଂଶ ଗୁଣ ଖାନୀ। କୋଟିନ ଉମା ରମା ବ୍ରହ୍ମାନୀ॥
Upajeu jasu amsha guna khani Kotina uma rama brahmani
ଅର୍ଥ:From a mere fraction of whom, that mine of virtues, arise millions of Umas, Ramas (Lakshmis) and Brahmanis.
ନିତ୍ଯ ଧାମ ଗୋଲୋକ ଵିହାରିନି। ଜନ ରକ୍ଷକ ଦୁଖ ଦୋଷ ନସାଵନି॥
Nitya dhama goloka viharini Jana rakshaka dukha dosha nasavani
ଅର୍ଥ:Dweller in the eternal abode of Goloka; protector of your people, destroyer of sorrow and fault.
ଶିଵ ଅଜ ମୁନି ସନକାଦିକ ନାରଦ। ପାର ନ ପାଂଇ ଶେଷ ଅରୁ ଶାରଦ॥
Shiva aja muni sanakadika narada Para na pami shesha aru sharada
ଅର୍ଥ:Shiva, the unborn Brahma, the sages, Sanaka and his brothers, and Narada, neither Shesha nor Sharada can find your limit.
ରାଧା ଶୁଭ ଗୁଣ ରୂପ ଉଜାରୀ। ନିରଖି ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ହୋତ ବନବାରୀ॥
Radha shubha guna rupa ujari Nirakhi prasanna hota banabari
ଅର୍ଥ:Radha, radiant with auspicious virtue and beauty; beholding you, Banwari (Krishna) is filled with delight.
ବ୍ରଜ ଜୀଵନ ଧନ ରାଧା ରାନୀ। ମହିମା ଅମିତ ନ ଜାଯ ବଖାନୀ॥
Braja jivana dhana radha rani Mahima amita na jaya bakhani
ଅର୍ଥ:Radha Rani, the life and treasure of Braj; your boundless glory cannot be told in full.
ପ୍ରୀତମ ସଂଗ ଦେଇ ଗଲବାଂହୀ। ବିହରତ ନିତ ଵୃନ୍ଦାଵନ ମାଂହୀ॥
Pritama samga dei galabamhi Biharata nita vrindavana mamhi
ଅର୍ଥ:Arm in arm with your beloved, you sport forever within Vrindavan.
ରାଧା କୃଷ୍ଣ କୃଷ୍ଣ କହୈଂ ରାଧା। ଏକ ରୂପ ଦୋଉ ପ୍ରୀତି ଅଗାଧା॥

ଅର୍ଥ:Radha says 'Krishna' and Krishna says 'Radha'; the two are one single form, their love unfathomable.
ଶ୍ରୀ ରାଧା ମୋହନ ମନ ହରନୀ। ଜନ ସୁଖ ଦାଯକ ପ୍ରଫୁଲିତ ବଦନୀ॥
Shri radha mohana mana harani Jana sukha dayaka praphulita badani
ଅର୍ଥ:Shri Radha, stealer of Mohan's (Krishna's) heart; giver of joy to your devotees, your face ever in bloom.
କୋଟିକ ରୂପ ଧରେଂ ନଂଦ ନଂଦା। ଦର୍ଶ କରନ ହିତ ଗୋକୁଲ ଚନ୍ଦା॥
Kotika rupa dharem namda namda Darsha karana hita gokula chanda
ଅର୍ଥ:The son of Nanda, the moon of Gokul, takes on a million forms just to gain the sight of you.
ରାସ କେଲି କରି ତୁମ୍ହେଂ ରିଝାଵେଂ। ମାନ କରୌ ଜବ ଅତି ଦୁଃଖ ପାଵେଂ॥
Rasa keli kari tumhem rijhavem Mana karau jaba ati duhkha pavem
ଅର୍ଥ:He delights you with the play of the rasa-dance; and when you feign loving anger (maan), he is sorely grieved.
ପ୍ରଫୁଲିତ ହୋତ ଦର୍ଶ ଜବ ପାଵେଂ। ଵିଵିଧ ଭାଂତି ନିତ ଵିନଯ ସୁନାଵେଂ॥
Praphulita hota darsha jaba pavem Vividha bhamti nita vinaya sunavem
ଅର୍ଥ:He blossoms with joy when he gains your sight, and ever offers his pleas to you in many ways.
ଵୃନ୍ଦାରଣ୍ଯ ଵିହାରିନି ଶ୍ଯାମା। ନାମ ଲେତ ପୂରଣ ସବ କାମା॥
Vrindaranya viharini shyama Nama leta purana saba kama
ଅର୍ଥ:O Shyama who sports in the forest of Vrinda; at the mere taking of your name, all desires are fulfilled.
କୋଟିନ ଯଜ୍ଞ ତପସ୍ଯା କରହୂ। ଵିଵିଧ ନେମ ଵ୍ରତ ହିଯ ମେଂ ଧରହୂ॥
Kotina yajna tapasya karahu Vividha nema vrata hiya mem dharahu
ଅର୍ଥ:Though one perform a million sacrifices and penances, and hold in the heart all manner of vows and observances,
ତଊ ନ ଶ୍ଯାମ ଭକ୍ତହିଂ ଅପନାଵେଂ। ଜବ ଲଗି ରାଧା ନାମ ନ ଗାଵେଂ॥
Tau na shyama bhaktahim apanavem Jaba lagi radha nama na gavem
ଅର୍ଥ:even so, Shyam does not take the devotee as his own, so long as that devotee does not sing the name of Radha.
ଵୃନ୍ଦାଵିପିନ ସ୍ଵାମିନୀ ରାଧା। ଲୀଲା ଵପୁ ତବ ଅମିତ ଅଗାଧା॥
Vrindavipina svamini radha Lila vapu taba amita agadha
ଅର୍ଥ:Radha, mistress of the groves of Vrindavan; your playful form is boundless and unfathomable.
ସ୍ଵଯଂ କୃଷ୍ଣ ପାଵୈଂ ନହିଂ ପାରା। ଔର ତୁମ୍ହେଂ କୋ ଜାନନ ହାରା॥
Svayam krishna pavaim nahim para Aura tumhem ko janana hara
ଅର୍ଥ:Krishna himself cannot reach your far shore; who else, then, is able to know you?
ଶ୍ରୀ ରାଧା ରସ ପ୍ରୀତି ଅଭେଦା। ସାଦର ଗାନ କରତ ନିତ ଵେଦା॥
Shri radha rasa priti abheda Sadara gana karata nita veda
ଅର୍ଥ:The love-rasa of Shri Radha and Krishna is one and indivisible; the Vedas ever sing of it with reverence.
ରାଧା ତ୍ଯାଗି କୃଷ୍ଣ କୋ ଭଜିହୈଂ। ତେ ସପନେହୁ ଜଗ ଜଲଧି ନ ତରି ହୈଂ॥
Radha tyagi krishna ko bhajihaim Te sapanehu jaga jaladhi na tari haim
ଅର୍ଥ:Those who forsake Radha and worship Krishna alone do not, even in a dream, cross the ocean of worldly existence.
କୀରତି କୁଂଵରି ଲାଡ़ିଲୀ ରାଧା। ସୁମିରତ ସକଲ ମିଟହିଂ ଭଵବାଧା॥
Kirati kumvari lada़ili radha Sumirata sakala mitahim bhavabadha
ଅର୍ଥ:Radha, the cherished daughter of Kirti; remembering her, all the obstacles of worldly life are erased.
ନାମ ଅମଂଗଲ ମୂଲ ନସାଵନ। ତ୍ରିଵିଧ ତାପ ହର ହରି ମନଭାଵନ॥
Nama amamgala mula nasavana Trividha tapa hara hari manabhavana
ଅର୍ଥ:Your name destroys the very root of all misfortune; remover of the three torments, beloved of Hari.
ରାଧା ନାମ ଲେଇ ଜୋ କୋଈ। ସହଜହି ଦାମୋଦର ବସ ହୋଈ॥
Radha nama lei jo koi Sahajahi damodara basa hoi
ଅର୍ଥ:Whoever takes the name of Radha, by that alone does Damodara (Krishna) come under their sway.
ରାଧା ନାମ ପରମ ସୁଖଦାଈ। ଭଜତହିଂ କୃପା କରହିଂ ଯଦୁରାଈ॥
Radha nama parama sukhadai Bhajatahim kripa karahim yadurai
ଅର୍ଥ:The name of Radha is the giver of supreme joy; on those who chant it, the lord of the Yadus bestows his grace.
ଯଶୁମତି ନନ୍ଦନ ପୀଛେ ଫିରିହୈଂ। ଜୋ କୋଊ ରାଧା ନାମ ସୁମିରିହୈଂ॥
Yashumati nandana pichhe phirihaim Jo kou radha nama sumirihaim
ଅର୍ଥ:The son of Yashoda (Krishna) follows behind whoever remembers the name of Radha.
ରାସ ଵିହାରିନି ଶ୍ଯାମା ପ୍ଯାରୀ। କରହୁ କୃପା ବରସାନେ ଵାରୀ॥

ଅର୍ଥ:O Shyama, beloved one who sports in the rasa-dance; show your grace, O lady of Barsana.
ଵୃନ୍ଦାଵନ ହୈ ଶରଣ ତିହାରୀ। ଜଯ ଜଯ ଜଯ ଵୃଷଭାନୁ ଦୁଲାରୀ॥
Vrindavana hai sharana tihari Jaya jaya jaya vrishabhanu dulari
ଅର୍ଥ:Vrindavan is your shelter, and in you I take shelter; victory, victory, victory, O darling daughter of Vrishabhanu!
ଶ୍ରୀରାଧା ସର୍ଵେଶ୍ଵରୀ, ରସିକେଶ୍ଵର ଘନଶ୍ଯାମ। କରହୁଂ ନିରଂତର ବାସ ମୈଂ, ଶ୍ରୀଵୃନ୍ଦାଵନ ଧାମ॥
Shriradha sarveshvari, rasikeshvara ghanashyama Karahun niramtara basa maim, shrivrindavana dhama
ଅର୍ଥ:Shri Radha is the supreme goddess of all, and the cloud-dark Krishna the lord of the rasikas; may I dwell forever in the holy abode of Shri Vrindavan.

ଉଚ୍ଚାରଣ ଶୁଣିବାକୁ ଯେକୌଣସି ଶବ୍ଦରେ କ୍ଲିକ୍ କରନ୍ତୁ
श्री राधा चालीसा ପାଠର ଲାଭ
Recited to invoke Shri Radha Rani, the beloved of Krishna and queen of Braj, for love, devotion (bhakti), and harmony in relationships and married life.
Praises Radha as the embodiment of pure love and the source of Krishna's grace, deepening prema-bhakti and surrender.
Believed to remove the root of misfortune and the three torments, for, as the Chalisa says, Krishna himself is won by those who sing the name of Radha.
Especially recited on Radha Ashtami (Radha's appearance day), during the months of Kartik and the Braj pilgrimage to Barsana and Vrindavan, and on Janmashtami.
Chanted with the Krishna Chalisa, Krishna Aarti and Madhurashtakam to complete the worship of Radha-Krishna.
श्री राधा चालीसा ପାଠ ବିଧି
After bathing, sit before an image of Radha-Krishna, light a lamp and offer flowers (especially tulsi) and bhog. Recite the Chalisa with love, dwelling on the divine pastimes of Radha and Krishna in Vrindavan, and chant 'Radhe Radhe' or 'Jai Shri Radhe'. It is recited with special devotion on Radha Ashtami.
