Born a Rajput princess, Meera Bai forsook royal life and convention for her love of Krishna, whom she called Giridhar Gopal. In this pada she renounces family ties and the fear of public censure, choosing the company of saints and the coarse cloth of a renunciate. The 'creeper of love' watered by her tears is one of the most cherished images in Hindi bhakti poetry.

Meera's songs survived precisely because they were lived: legend tells of poison turned to nectar and other trials she passed through unharmed, sustained by her love. பொருள்:मेरे तो बस गिरधर गोपाल हैं, दूसरा कोई नहीं। जिनके सिर पर मोर मुकुट है, वही मेरे पति हैं।

தாத மாத ப்ராத பம்து, ஆபநோ ந கோஈ। சாம்ட़ி தஈ குல கீ காநி, கஹா கரிஹை கோஈ॥

Taat maat bhraat bandhu, aapno na koi Chhaandi dayi kul ki kaani, kaha karihai koi

பொருள்:पिता, माता, भाई, बंधु — कोई अपना नहीं। मैंने कुल की मर्यादा का मोह छोड़ दिया; अब कोई क्या कर लेगा।

ஸம்தந டிக பைடி பைடி, லோக லாஜ கோஈ। சுநரீ கே கிஏ டூக, ஓட़ லீந்ஹீ லோஈ॥

Santan dhig baithi baithi, lok laaj khoi Chunari ke kiye took, odh leenhi loi

பொருள்:संतों के पास बैठ-बैठकर मैंने लोक-लाज खो दी। चुनरी के टुकड़े कर दिए और मोटी लोई ओढ़ ली।

ஆம்ஸுந ஜல ஸீம்சி ஸீம்சி, ப்ரேம பேலி போஈ। அப தோ பேலி பைல கஈ, ஆணம்த பல ஹோஈ॥

Aansun jal seenchi seenchi, prem beli boi Ab to beli phail gayi, aanand phal hoi

பொருள்:आँसुओं के जल से सींच-सींचकर मैंने प्रेम की बेल बोई; अब वह बेल फैल गई है और आनंद का फल दे रही है।

Sing slowly and from the heart, feeling Meera's complete surrender. There is no ritual — let the lines carry the longing of a devotee for whom God alone matters.

Meera Bai, the 16th-century Rajput saint-poetess and devotee of Krishna. It is one of her most famous padas, expressing her undivided love for the Lord.

'Giridhar' means 'lifter of the mountain' — Krishna, who raised Mount Govardhan; 'Gopal' is the cowherd Lord. Meera declares this Krishna to be her only husband and refuge.

Meera's renunciation of family, status and social shame for the sake of her love for Krishna — and the bliss that her devotion, watered by tears, finally bore as fruit.
